On a more personal note, I have often been asked why I went into veterinary medicine and why the exotic animal medicine and for as long as I can remember I have always had pets of all kinds from hamsters, gerbils, fish and turtles to dogs and cats. I was also known to bring home many injured and orphaned wildlife. My parents tolerated so much with all my critters and new found animals in need! I found an injured turtle at a park once with my grandmother and we brought it home and nursed it back to health. I fed the baby birds worms I would catch out in the yard and when I was to high school I worked in a pet store and instantly became the caregiver to the sick pets in the back room. That is also where I adopted a cat and purchased my first parrot, whom I still have.I had never owned or worked with pet birds before this and they fascinated me with all their colors and antics. I was hooked! Little did I know then that I would be working on them as a veterinarian. At the time I had no interest to go to another 7 years of school to become a veterinarian but I did have a strong interest in the medical field so I attended Bel Rea Institute of Animal Technology. I worked in a veterinary hospital in Denver until I had my son. My husband was transferred to Ft Colllins shortly after that. I received my State Wildlife Rehabilitation License and took in many birds and rabbits. I also worked with the CSU raptor program and had appreciated the help of the students so much. I also had begun acquiring several different species of parrots and we set our garage up into an aviary where I successfully raised many dozen baby birds. When my son was 3 years old, I started my undergraduate program at CSU after which I was admitted into the Veterinary Medicine Program.Dr Jolynn Chappell working on a Bobcat.

My hobbies now include riding my paint horse, taking my two yellow labs out for a run, gardening and photography. My husband and I enjoy traveling when we can grab the time!

It is always a joy working with such a variety of animals and I thoroughly enjoy meeting and getting to know all the wonderful clients that bring them in to me. I have a wonderful support team who are all so enthusiastic and so great to work with! Come in and let us all help you with all your needs for your companion animal friends!
